A Swing Evening with Swing Man Tau e.V.
Welcome to the Swing Evening with Swing Man Tau e.V.!
Following the Open Space at Domshof and the afterparty at Theater Bremen, the Bremer swing association will now be hosted by the Schwankhalle. On this very special evening, you can look forward to the following program:
7:45 – Intro: Balboa
The evening kicks off with an introduction to the swing dance called Balboa. Balboa iis a partner dance that originated in the late 1930s in crowded dance halls in California (Balboa is a Californian town). It is usually danced tightly together, typically to faster jazz music, and features a rotating dynamic.
From 8:30 – Dance Party
The evening will then continue with a dance party. We’ll be dancing the Balboa, but you can also swing along even if you don’t have any special dance skills, true to the motto, “The main thing is for us to have fun and enjoy the music!”
Admission is free, but the association gladly accepts a donation.
Swing Man Tau invite everyone to join in on a musical and cultural journey to discover swing. Feel free to talk to the members.
About Swing Man Tau e.V.
Since 2021, the Swing Man Tau e.V. association has been active as a community characterized by openness and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences. Everyone is welcome here. The members are of all ages, from students to retirees, and they share a love of music and dance. The association has more than 120 active members. In addition, there are many swing enthusiasts in Bremen and north-west Germany who dance Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag, and Blues.
Swing dancing originated in Harlem, New York, in the 1920s and 30s. Especially against the backdrop of racial segregation, it was a form of resilience in the African-American communities. European »swing kids« were persecuted by the Nazi regime, and the socialist states also persecuted jazz and swing enthusiasts.
Swing Man Tau was a cooperation partner in the project »National Socialist ‘Degenerate Music’. Persecuted Swing Dancers and Jazz Musicians in North-West Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland« which was funded by the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future.
The association engages with the global swing culture at international festivals, culture talks, a book club, and through other culturally and historically sensitive activities.
