Mary Ocher returns to Bremen with the piano album “Weimar.” Between minimalism, chamber pop, and modern classical music, Ocher alludes in a highly topical manner to the downfall of the Weimar Republic which was followed by fascism close to a century ago.

Mary Ocher was born to Jewish-Ukrainian parents in Moscow and grew up in Tel Aviv. At the age of 20, after having refused to do mandatory military service, she moved to Berlin, where she became a key figure of the underground scene with her uncompromising political attitude. In light of the globally increasing trends toward nationalism, censorship, and cultural fragmentation, her engagement with identity, fear, and the sense of belonging seems more relevant than ever.

»The mood is dark and foreboding - a new fascism has never been so close. Despite this, it’s not agitprop, but the intimate reflection of a songwriter interested in the role politics plays in her life« (Rolling Stone)
