»Certainly Uncertain« is a lecture performance that weaves together personal narrative and scientific inquiry. It tells the story of an individual journey, marked by actions, consequences and radical transformation.

On the electrically charged terrain of neuroscience, the artist explores the complex topic of perception from a deeply personal point of view. The playful and interactive lecture performance merges fact with fiction and scientific research with personal experience to understand how perception works. Is perception something that happens to us or something that we do? How does the brain know what we see? Is there a difference between perception and experience? What can we learn from our nervous system as a society and as individuals in times of crisis?

With the help of live DIY experiments and the use of everyday objects — such as sugar cubes and cauliflower — Eva Meyer-Keller crafts a choreography that highlights relational thinking. From the earliest single-celled organisms to intricate neural structures, she invites the audience to reflect on the profound effects of these systems on immediate experience. At the excess ends, the intersections of unfinished stories and unanswered questions, »Certainly Uncertain« arranges a performative mosaic of fragile remnants – only to immediately disrupt it again.

The Artist

Eva Meyer-Keller is a Berlin-based artist who works at the intersection of performance and visual art. Before graduating from the School for New Dance Development (SNDO) in Amsterdam she studied photography and visual art in Berlin (HdK) and London (Central St. Martins and Kings College). Her approach is characterized by a constructive disregard for the boundaries between visual arts, performing arts, and science. Through choreographed sequences of actions, she creates images that draw the observers’ attention to what has always been there: the small things that are often overlooked.
