Penthesilea, Judith, Clytemnestra, Medea, Lady Macbeth. Evening after evening, we let ourselves be swept along by their violent acts and take pleasure in drama, murder and manslaughter. If they weren’t captured in Penguin Classics, they would probably be in jail. That is where the theater collective Markus&Markus sought out the – very real – protagonists for their new piece and started writing them letters. They became pen-friends with women convicted of murder. In their inimitable form of documentary theater, which entirely dispenses with a claim to reality, Markus&Markus jointly create a theater evening that raises new questions concerning humanity and second chances.
