The project explores war and experiences of war, the effects of trauma, social stereotypes, and the question of how to carry on living and making art under unstable conditions. Serious and at times distressing themes are deliberately combined with humour, satire, music and dance.

»Tanz gegen die Muräne der Zeit« is a work in progress originating at the text / body Lab in Bremen. The starting point is the eponymous text by the Ukrainian writer and dramaturge Julia Gonchar—a satirical and poetic engagement with contemporary Ukraine, in which the experience of war, societal expectations, and personal wishes collide. The focus is on the search for freedom, the struggle against time, and the question of how to continue living in an instable reality, accept oneself, and still create art.

Gonchar and Shyshkarova work at the intersection of text, body, dance, and music. In Bremen, they will revisit the material and open it up: What happens when the text is not only spoken, but danced, rapped, set to rhythm, and expressed with the body? Humor and vulnerability, twerking and language, everyday life and existential questions can exist alongside each other.

The showing grants insights into this open lab process—not as the premiere of a completed piece, but as a snapshot of joint artistic research.
