TOMAS BÜNGER

›QUEERLAND?‹

Residence: 01/15-03/15/2021

Queer persons unconsciously notice at an early point in time that they do not really belong and from early childhood often become masters of everyday performance. How have these performances been shaped? Is that why I am an artist? Who is the person behind these performances? Who would I be in Queerland? A research endeavor into queer identity and self-empowerment in dance.

Tomas Bünger studied stage dance at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and was a longstanding member of Tanztheater Bremen under Susanne Linke and Urs Dietrich. He also worked with Rodolpho Leonie, Rami Be'er, Emanuel Gat, Ingun Bjørnsgaard, Tero Saarinen, Henrietta Horn, and Reinhild Hoffmann. He completed advanced training to become a dance instructor at the Mark Morris Dance Center in New York City, was a guest lecturer at the University of the Arts in Buenos Aires and upon the invitation of the Goethe-Institute Bangladesh worked for several years as a guest lecturer for contemporary dance and choreography at the National Theater and Dhaka University.
Tomas Bünger is cofounder of the TanzKollektivBremen, which since September 2020 has been working at the Schwankhalle in the frame of the cohabitant model. He is a jury member of the Tanztreffen der Jugend/Berliner Festspiele and a yoga teacher. His most recent work prior to the pandemic was ›Frühlingserwachen‹ with 15 young men, in collaboration with the director Alize Zandwijk, at Theater Bremen. He recently produced a dance film in Kassel with persons with and without Parkinson’s disease and choreographed the dance piece ›Silent Heroes‹ for the Ensemble of Curious Nature at the Schwankhalle.
