In ›She Legend‹, the choreographer duo Rykena/Jüngst sets off on a search for queer potentials in the world of comics which is permeated by gender clichés. As futuristic shape shifters, they thoroughly rattle the ideals of traditional comic heroes and heroines. Inspired by the visually stunning and at times bizarre forms of expression in comics, they move through myths, legends and apocalyptic soundscapes in a maximally expressive way, drawing superpowers from their bodies, singing songs about their metamorphoses and creating contemporary mythological figures that declare war on the norm of the masculinized individual hero.
Carolin Jüngst & Lisa Rykena work as an artist duo in Munich and Hamburg. In their dance productions, they roam the strip clubs and variety theaters of the 1920s, Ovid’s Metamorphoses or queer comic conventions and let mermaids, She Hulk’s expressive arias, velvet stages, and marble down jackets encounter each other. In their work, they engage with queer-feminist, intersectional and ableism-critical body discourses and the transformation of normative body categorizations. Making recourse to classical, mythological and pop-cultural themes, they create figures that resist the stereotypes and clichés of heteronormative attributions. www.rykenajuengst.tumblr.com
