Performance
Every successful blockbuster needs a second part that sinks the first. For the Markus&Markus Theaterkollektiv, this can only mean: After the success of the American movie »Titanic,« »Titanic II« has to be staged! The sequel starts where the movie ends: on the ocean floor. So sand is needed, a whole lot of sand.
The search for it leads the collective to a concrete plant, where in a game of poker tickets can be won to a place where sand is mined as if there were no tomorrow. The consequences of this overexploitation are tangible. Each year, humanity consumes twice as much sand as all the rivers in the world subsequently deliver. Created in thousands of years, sand is irreversibly bound to concrete in 90 minutes—just as long as the condensed story of this theater production takes.
»Titanic II« is a collision course, a melodrama, a telegram from a sinking ship.
