presented by Schwankhalle & frauenseiten
On the occasion of March 8, the Schwankhalle and frauenseiten invite all women, trans*-, inter*- and non-binary persons, queers and their allies to recover from patriarchy, the strike and care work, and celebrate together at the 8M After-Strike concert presented in a livestream—with THORD1S, Awa Khiwe and Lady Oelectric.
THORD1S means: basses, epochal vocals, cozy sax vibes and beard. As a one-person band, THORD1S layers, loops and mixes live to brand new eighties, made with love in 2021. Gender and genre bending, a queer-feminist rock’n’roll ride as an intervention in the hetero-cis-male-dominated music scene. Flowing between pop and performance, grand gestures and subtle nuances, tearjerkers and mini-rave.
The first letters, AWA, stand not only for the name Awakhiwe, but also for the acronym “African Women Arise.” AWA Khiwe, the rap queen from Zimbabwe, combines rap in Ndebele, the Zimbabwean national language, and in English to create an extremely danceable sound. In the summer of 2020, she triggered a social media hype when she posted a short rap video on Twitter that had us all begging for more.
Accompanied by a touch of tropical aftershave, Lady Oelectric rounds off the evening with a DJ set. Whether as a walking glitter ball, a fluffy poodle or a seahorse—she always has a lot of belly to dance and a good pinch of spaciness.
