Dance
»Ball Pla« is a popular dance celebrated in different regions of València and Catalunya. Its steps are soft and the feet slide always close to the floor. Those dances in the traditional society were spontaneous, open to everyone and strengthened social connections. Today, »Ball Pla« is an exhibition of the local Folklore, a strong symbol of identity and celebration of the town’s heritage. Halfway between étude and homage, choreographer Neus Ledesma Vidal analyzes an ongoing tradition and its rituals, in order to abstract the essence and understand why it remains socially so celebrated. Drawing on her personal experience of dancing »Ball Pla« in her hometown Sant Mateu, with »rebonico« she looks into its origins and historical evolution, its rhythm and structure to juxtapose it with contemporary movement and composition.
Neus Ledesma Vidal was born in Barcelona in 1989 and graduated from the London Contemporary Dance School in 2010. In 2011 she founded the multidisciplinary collective »HMD« in Barcelona with Andres Just. Since 2017 she lives and works as a dance teacher, performer and choreographer in Bremen.
