Rae Spoon has a non-binary self-understanding and uses „they“ as a personal pronoun. Rae‘s musical roots lie in country and gospel. Coming from a devout Christian family in the Canadian prairie, Rae toured Canada as the first queer country singer. Rae has meanwhile released nine solo albums, composes film soundtracks, is a writer, and runs an own label, COAX Records. While the early pieces were still influenced by traditional country themes, Rae now increasingly deals with the experiences of being transgender in present-day society.
