Schwankhalle is pleased to announce the launch of »Post-Genre«, a new international residency program. The new international residency program »Post-Genre« was designed to meet the specific needs of artists working across genres, with emphasis on time-based art. Often, interdisciplinary artists struggle to find the appropriate workspace, technical support, or mentorship that can accommodate the diverse needs of their project. Post-Genre is designed to fill that gap. In addition, recognizing the value and effectiveness of a residency with a collaborator, the program was intentionally developed to host two artists applying together, either as a new or existing duo.

In partnership with the Städtische Galerie Bremen ↗ , the month-long residency offers the successful duo a comprehensive program, including a financial stipend, access to a rehearsal studio, artistic mentorship, opportunities to network with the local art community, and a public presentation of the residency‘s results.

In an open call published in fall 2024, the jury has selected the Prague-based duo Nitish Jain and Magdalena Malinová, working at the intersection of stage design, theatre, and participatory performance. In February 2025, they will be hosted by Schwankhalle for a month-long stay, during which they will develop their current research about touch, vulnerability and empathy. In the frame of the residency, the duo will facilitate workshops open to the public ↗ and share the results of their residency in a public presentation on February 27th at the Städische Galerie.

»Post-Genre« is conceived and led by artist and choreographer Renen Itzhaki and supported by Culture Moves Europe ↗ – a project funded by the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut.

Nitish Jain, an India-born artist based in Czechia, works across architecture, performance, storytelling, and object-making. Trained as an architect and scenographer, he creates multisensory experiences, engaging audiences through touch, taste, smell, sound, and vision. Drawing from Indian rasa aesthetics and phenomenology, his work explores fatigue, rest, post-coloniality, and the climate crisis, fostering connections between human and ecological wellbeing.

Magdalena Malinová, a graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, is a dancer, performer, and researcher. Her work explores rest, morning rituals, and somatic experiences, using the body’s sensory and fictional resources to communicate with the unseen. She draws strength from hospitality and culinary practices, fostering care, togetherness, and slowness as vital tools for resilience in today’s fast-paced world.
