›While we slowly start peeling, we expose the field of tension between pop culture and the tyranny.‹
The banana is one of the most important and widespread foodstuffs in the world. It is the protagonist of colonial and postcolonial crimes as well as racist and sexist attributions. At the same time, it is a movie star, a comedian, art, and a political weapon. In ›Banana Island‹, the collective die apokalyptischen tänzer*innen queries the glamorous appearance of the banana and contextualizes the contradictions it unites.
One week prior to the premiere of the piece, die apokalyptischen tänzer*innen invite the audience to a discursive prologue with lectures, workshops and film screenings at the Schwankhalle and other venues in Bremen. Together with their guests, they discuss colonialism, global trade, racisms, and representation. www.apocalypse.dance
