Tausend Tode Festival
Have you ever seen a dead person? Possibly not, because old age and illness are today mostly outsourced to hospitals and care facilities. We have therefore lost the familiarity with dealing with the end of life. We turn to a funeral parlor and then people like Malin Baßner or Sofie Ruffing come, who are tasked with handling the dead body. In »Nach dem Ende« they stand on stage as performers, impart their point of view to the audience and counter the fear of contact with death. They give an account of washing the deceased, treating wounds, dressing, applying make-up, and laying the body in the coffin. But they also tell of their friendships, of special encounters and insights. BKM Performance addresses the theme in a radical and sensual way. »Nach dem Ende« sounds out contradictions: between sensitivity and absurdity, between documentary material and fictional, eerie elements, between mortality and eternity.
