In our capitalist society, old bodies are often defined by their deficits—by what they can no longer do and what they no longer are. Old bodies confront younger people with their own mortality and the impending loss of performance capacity. In “Dreams in a Cloudy Space,” Antje Velsinger revises this way of looking at things and integrates the (self-)perception of older people. Based on her research in different retirement homes and senior centers, Velsinger deals with physical qualities beyond efficiency. On stage, a 35-year-old and a 75-year old dancer meet. They seek stability, sink, fall, support each other, enjoy and employ a variety of tricks to cope with everyday life. ›Dreams in a Cloudy Space‹ blurs the boundaries between activity and passivity, isolation and retreat, joy and resignation, and asks with what attitude we can grow old.
For the show on SUN Nov 28 we offer a live audio description for blind people and people with visual impairments as well as a Haptic Tour. Haptic Tours are live guided tours before the performance that allow visitors to experience the space, the performers, the costumes and objects as well as the most important movement elements of the performance through touch and their own movement. Please register at ticket@schwankhalle.de if you would like to take part.
