How can a dance be transported through text? Not only the sequence of movements, but also the atmosphere and the intention of a dance? Most often, the visual perception of the audience's experience of a dance performance is central. In response, Zwoisy Mears-Clarke's artistic interests lie in non-visual dance, where the position of sight in the hierarchy of the senses is considered and interrupted. Zwoisy Mears-Clarke and collaborator Birte Opitz invite you to further explore non-visual dance in the frame of a movement lab. In this lab, together we will try out prepared scores and exchange ideas about how dances can be passed on via text. Each score will be available both as printed text and audio. No prior dance experience is necessary. The language of the lab will be German and/or English as needed.
Zwoisy Mears-Clarke is a choreographer of the encounter. They use the potential of dance to confront forms of oppression such as racism, sexism, neocolonialism, and ableism. Through choreography, Zwoisy seeks to facilitate encounters that might otherwise seem unreachable.
Birte Opitz lives and works in Berlin as a freelance performer, dance facilitator and feminist self-assertion and self-defense trainer. In her own work she predominantly combines the themes of dance and self-assertion, working with movement and voice improvisation, immersive and participatory formats. She first collaborated with Zwoisy Mears-Clarke in ›Sitting On A Man's Head‹ by Okwui Okpokwasili at the Berlin Biennale 2018 and now collabs with him in ›Landing (...)‹ as well as for the development of non-visual dance scores.
For adults with and without dance experience.
Accessible to blind people and people with and without visual impairments, pedestrians and wheelchair users. In German and/or English as needed.
Please come in comfortable clothes in which you can move freely and bring enough water to drink.
