The buddies Quast & Knoblich meet in the backyard to practice shooting. They want to select the best gun from their collection and elect it the ›Freischütz‹. They take aim at all kinds of things: car wheels, blood bombs, Styrofoam doves, sheep made of expanding foam, and in the end themselves. In ›Casting Freischütz‹, Quast & Knoblich question the everyday culture of hunting and gun clubs as bastions of male self-dramatization and translate the linguistic flood of mansplaining for the stage. They talk shop about the specifics of guns, ammunition, ideal targets. But above all about they ask what it takes for the perfect shot: the right weapon or the ability of the shooter?
An unsettlingly comical performance with long wigs, precise hunting jargon, and real shooting that casts out the last remains of shooter romanticism.
