Blackfacing is a racist theater practice that painfully visualizes stereotypes and biases. Yet even today it can still be found on many theater stages. In ›Black Off‹, the South African performer Ntando Cele turns the tables. Her alter ego Bianca White enters the stage with a blond wig, blue contact lenses and a full ›whiteface‹. In a humorous and at once merciless manner, she shows the predominantly white audience the gazes that Black people are exposed to in the white dominant culture. The Stand-up-Performance-Comedy-Rock-Show ›Black Off‹ confronts white viewers with their own racist (pre-)conceptions and demonstrates that a multicultural society does not automatically possess an intercultural understanding.
