19 - 29 MAY 2016
In May and June, the Schwankhalle will become a campus for two times two weeks.
Dates will be announced online at short notice!
The German word “aussetzen” can be used to mean abandoning a pet at a highway rest area, exposing one’s skin to the sun, or, in the worst case, when breathing stops. None of these things are desirable. But what does “aussetzen” in the senses of abandoning, exposing, suspending or stopping mean in regard to theater? How does someone feel who has nothing to do with theater and is exposed to an audience on stage? What are the consequences of subjecting the theater’s staff to unusual bodily strain? And what do financers and the audience say, when the theater direction suddenly suspends the regular program?
Emerging theater-makers from the Institute for Media, Theater and Popular Culture of the University of Hildesheim and the Institute for Applied Theater Studies of the University of Gießen are invited to work on the theme of “Aussetzen”. An experiment beyond the usual power structures of ›young talents‹ and ›organizers‹, from which both sides can learn a lot. We will announce at short notice what will go public, when and where.
