Following his path-breaking book ›Retromania‹, today’s probably most important pop theorist now presents the definitive work on the fascinating musical style of Glam with ›Shock and Awe: Glam Rock and Its Legacy, from the Seventies to the Twenty-first Century‹. A cultural history of this idiosyncratic fashion and its weird stars that continue to have a significant impact on pop culture today. With Glam, David Bowie, T. Rex, Alice Cooper, and Roxy Music celebrated artificiality and the spectacle, and thus distinguished themselves from the same old rock bands of their times. Glam was more than just a colorful game, it was the first cultural rebellion against the boredom of ossified rock music – years before punk.
›Glam‹ will be published in German end of November 2017 at Ventil Verlag.
