Bittersweet and meditative, stirring and peaceful: The Ukrainian pianist Lubomyr Melnyk was long an insiders’ tip in Germany. After being discovered by Hauschka, he became known as a virtuoso of “continuous music.” This self-created style combines influences of American minimal music with late-romantic themes. His rapid play with 20 touches per second and per hand is impressive. A day before his concert in the auditorium of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Melnyk will give a guest performance at the Schwankhalle.
